Church building designs for New Zealand
Church architecture design holds a special place in Wayne Houston’s heart. While studying at the Auckland University School of Architecture, he wrote a thesis on church design. This led to his involvement with a series of church building projects in New Zealand. From renovation plans for historic churches through to modern additions and new church building designs, Wayne’s experience with church architecture spans a range of denominations and locations.
The process of architectural design for churches
Church projects have unique characteristics. More often than not, a group of people are involved with decisions, although having one spokesperson helps to ensure a clear communication pathway at all stages of the project. Church projects can also have financial and timing challenges, however at Houston Architects we believe firmly that a mediocre building constructed cheaply is money wasted. We will always try to develop a design that results in a cost-effective, quality outcome.
A key factor for ecclesiastical projects is taking the time to understand how people use church spaces, both for worship and for social events. Led by Wayne Houston, our team will consider the functional aspects of your project as well as individual denominational requirements.
Underpinning all church projects is the need to create spaces and features that are inspirational and welcoming.
