St Aidens Anglican Church

“We are proud to have been St. Aidan’s Church Architect for over 15 years.”

Our first project was the demolition of the old manse and the design of a new timber-clad facility that functions as both a large home with accessible bathrooms and a place to hold meetings without disturbing the residing vicar’s family.

Our second project was to design a foyer, lounge, library, kitchenette and toilet facilities to serve the historic church and form a link to the 1960 hall and admin block. We took our design cue from the beautiful historic Lych gate, which is prominent on the Remuera Road frontage. The stone pillars and the interior design details harmonise with the beautiful dark timber interior on the church. The renovation of the Lych gate required collaboration with the Historic Places Trust and the carefully controlled reconstruction of damaged elements to match the original design.

We are one of the few architectural practices in New Zealand that has an extensive track record of over forty years with ecclesiastical architecture. Whether you want to improve an existing structure or build a new structure, talk to us about the needs of your church. Our work extends to buildings that do dual duty so that church organisations can gain income from their premises.

Wayne Houston wrote his degree thesis on church design and understands the variety of needs each church building requires.
