“Adding aesthetic energy with modern Polynesian-influenced architecture.”
The brief for this school admin building was to channel modern Pasifika architecture. The building at the front of the site would become the ‘flagship’ for the school. The design uses the form of a sheltering waka inverted to designate the entry points. The adult entry is on the street side; the student entry is on the school side. Both are serviced by a common reception area. The new administration block includes a staff room opening on to a private courtyard, workroom, sickbay, meeting rooms, principal’s office, reception and toilets. This project was completed in September 2002, then two years later we were entrusted to design a new library to complement the design of the admin building.
Our work in the education sector brings contemporary character and beauty to school environments. At the opening of a new administration block for Elm Park Primary School, the Prime Minister commented on our ‘cutting edge design’. The projects we work on for schools also demonstrate our practicality, because spaces are both efficient and versatile.
