Westgate Baptist Church

“Lifting the profile of a family church, to enrich the surrounding neighbourhood.”

Situated on a main highway, the existing buildings were dated and difficult to see from the road. Our design for the 500-seat church propelled the building into the present with a highly visible profile of contemporary lines. The design of the cross at the entrance is both an architectural statement and a symbol of the church’s purpose. The cafe, on the front corner of the building, flows out into a courtyard, providing an attractive face to the passing public on this busy highway. The attractive design is driving increased numbers of worshippers.

We are one of the few architectural practices in New Zealand that has an extensive track record of over forty years with ecclesiastical architecture. Whether you want to improve an existing structure or build a new structure, talk to us about the needs of your church. Our work extends to buildings that do dual duty so that church organisations can gain income from their premises.

Wayne Houston wrote his degree thesis on church design and understands the variety of needs each church building requires.
